Opening a restaurant is a big risk since so many of them close. It is hard to maintain a consistent set of customers, supplies are expensive, and the profit margins are low. So, it is rarely a surprise to see small restaurants closing. However, major restaurant chains are generally seen as impervious to these issues, which makes it all the more shocking that these restaurant chains may shut down.

There are some real heavy hitters on this list, from Outback Steakhouse and TGI Fridays to the International House of Pancakes themselves, IHOP.
